y  its easy approach from both land and through water canal, the Ottoman Residence is in an idyllic riverfront setting. The 'Han', which has a central courtyard with surrounding rooms opening into it, is a mansion of Ottoman architecture. Once people enter their rooms they shift from central space to privacy and once they leave their rooms, they are embraced with the central space. The reality of a structure is not in its furnishing, nor its walls, rather in its emptiness. The main purpose when entering the central courtyard through the traditional 'Kuzulu Kapi', is to perceive the rich interior space and the background enriched with the perspective of pool/river. Closed to the north wind yet open to the east-west breeze, the spaces in the ceiling create natural air conditioning, whilst the roof structure stops water yet penetrates light. Wood is the dominant material with different motifs, copied from ancient structures carved throughout the rooms and communal areas. The wood ornaments and details are used to bring old times to present and successfully integrate art and craft. 500 year old Ottoman detail and motifs are represented in the wall designs below handrail level. The highly crafted wood chairs seen in the rooms and the restaurant were commissioned at the same time as construction of the building and was done by 2 professional craftsman in a 12 month period working day and night.

The motifs on the back of the chairs represent the motifs of 16th century wall and marble coverings of the time. Interior walls are adorned with original oil paintings representing scenes from Akyaka and the surrounding vicinity.Sourced locally, the stone travertine, called 'NOCA' is used as the flooring material and was partially worn, holding the principle of nature alive on the flooring. While the light applications used in all spaces are adapted from old times in order to adhere with history. The cultural structure, where Turkish traditions, customs and motifs are discovered by watching and living was designed by the famous architect of the region, Tevfik Toprakçi and it is operated by experienced Anatolian Sky staff who are honest, consciously involved and has proven itself in tourism.
